ing accompanied by Monk Hazel and Sherwood Mangiapane). Then, flying in, all the way from Sacramento, California, the very great exponent of Bessie Smith's songs, greatest songstress which the recent jazz recrudescence has uncovered, Claire Austin!! Les Koenig, bossman of GOOD TIME JAZZ has released her to us for the night. (It looks like Armand Hug, Monk Hazel and Sherwood Mangiapane will back her up - with either Santo Pecora or    ) but wait I'm ahead o f the final feature of the Super-De-Luxe program!

Plans which the Board of Directors of the N. O. JAZZ CLUB have cooked up for their Annual Festival of Jazz are so formidable, that the September-October 'issue of "THE SECOND LINE" has been pushed up almost a month. This was done in order to inform our out-oftown members of our plans well in advance, so that they may make every effort to attend.
We understand that in the offing on Saturday night, "Turk" Murphy and his band will perform for dancing aboard the S. S. Streckfus President, and that they will be recorded "on the spot" by Columbia Records. Georgia Avakian and four other executives from New York. will accompany "Turk" and supervise the job.
I f this feature takes place, it will be open to the public.
At long last we are at liberty to tell ALL! And WHAT an ALL! Here is the program, tentatively outlined. We think you will agree that nothing like this has been attempted before.

Finally, the Annual get-to-gether between the NEW ORLEANS ART ASSOCIATION and the NEW ORLEANS JAZZ CLUB is booked forSunday night, at the Delgado Museum of Art.
Finally, flying in from New York City is none other than the great "Turk" Murphy, with his whole gang. Recently the band bowled over blazee New York City. Longtime featured artist of GOOD TIME JAZZ, pioneer in the West Coast "revival," student of Joe Oliver, star of the early Yerba Buena and Jazzman records and currently the fair--haired boy o f Columbia Records, it will be interesting to see and hear how a tailgate battle between "Turk" and the evergreen Santo Pecora will turn out when they meet on the same stage.( We think it should turn out very, very great!

First of all, the deadly routine of 4 different bands taking their stint is O-U-T. An "AllStar" band, comprised of Santo Pecora, Chink Martin, Lester Bouchon, Stanley Mendelson,

"Turk" Murphy will again preside. Of special interest to art lovers, an internationally known collection of "AFRICANA" will be exhibited at the same time. Unfortunately, boys and girls, the attendance is limited to members of t12-e New Orleans Art Association and the New Orleans Jazz Club. So, if you have read this article and are not a member of either, it is not too late to send in your dues!

appearing as "guest soloist" (if he is back from his honeymoon!) Wait! Don't pack up yet, there's plenty more to come

One final word of advice to out of town members and friends: if you wish to make reservations in advance, write directly to Mrs. John Menville, 1227 Webster Street, New Orleans 18, La. Better be soon than sorry! Send. check!
The Festival night is Friday, October 7th, and we advise everyone to get to the Municipal Auditorium before - or no later than - 8:00 o'clock P.M.

Armand Hug, internationally known New Orleans pianist, has been generously released by his boss, Mr. Musso (in all probability be
